bookshelf shopping

i am researching some structure possibilities for my work desk. while looking around i spotted this charming library book cart at target. i wish i had the space/need for this!! it's so cute and i have a soft spot for furniture with wheels.

the apartment made some big strides this weekend! noah and i moved the living room around into every single layout imaginable, but most of them were terrible. it's such a hard room! our couch is just too big for the space. we finally found a way to make it work. we need a rug and some new curtains, and some warmer weather, but then the living room will be a very pleasant place to be. photos posted soon...

it's been raining nonstop, so it's hard to get out and about to look for supplies for the back room. the weather should clear up by wednesday, and i really want to finish the back room this week. it can be done!

house is a mess

well, the table is tentatively sold! the buyer is coming today to pick it up and pay us, so it's not a done deal until then. but that will be a great help, because i can't move everything around in the studio until the table is gone so we can move the chairs. blah, blah, blah. short story is that the house in in chaos and it's a pain.

the good news is that i completed my DIY for design*sponge, and i was approved for health insurance! yay. a small step towards getting everything settled. my other projects this week are finishing a few knitting projects, moving the rest of the furniture, organizing my art supplies, and setting up my new computer!

today i also attempted to shower with my succulent plants because i read here that it will help keep them healthy. i am very bad at remembering to water and they do seem pretty happy now.

first projects

my first projects are coming along slowly. there are several avenues to pursue and i don't want to go everywhere at once and become disorganized. the only structure set up in my life right now are my weekly DIY posts for design*sponge, which i am thrilled and honored to be doing. the picture above is from one of the projects i did two weeks ago. the problem is that each post has my name, which links to my etsy shop, which is completely empty! so pathetic... bad bad business move, so i think my first order of business is to get some things up there to sell.

the second priority (or third, after design*sponge and etsy) is to make some pieces for a friend's gallery in oakland. and then the fourth priority is to get a website up and running. which means learning dreamweaver over again and trying to make some nice graphics in photoshop.

okay, so pretty busy! we'll see how it goes...

first week out

here is the last display i did before i left. this is my first week out after leaving my job and it feels pretty good overall. on monday i got a weird stomach bug so i spent most of the week sleeping and eating crackers. i tried not to be too hard on myself for being lazy, unproductive, squandering my precious free time that i am so lucky to have. but clearly those feelings emerged. this weekend is very exciting though, because noah and i are trying to move our entire house around to utlize our rooms a bit better, AND to allow us to have a studio!!

the biggest obstacle in this move is this giant table we purchased from cody's books on telegraph when it closed. it is this amazing solid wood table, very beautiful. but it is so large and heavy. we are going to try to put it in the back bedroom which will become the studio/workroom. in order to do this we need to shorten the legs, get helping hands and two dollies, and try to maneuver it through two narrows doorways and a hallway that is two inches wider than the table itself..

we will see how it goes. i will post before and after pics of the rooms of course. maybe some awful mid-move shots as well, when we are all sweaty and angry and hating each other.

if the table does not fit i think we will have to sell it. it breaks our hearts because it is one of those lucky finds that doesn't come along very often, and it has such personality. but in all honesty it is really too big for our apartment. i know that there is some berkeley family out there (that lives in one of those amazing california ranch style mansions up in the hills) that would love to have this table. so maybe it was meant to be.
